iPhone 6 submerged in isopropyl alcohol in emergency-backlight barely

Hey y'all! Been awhile.

A friends iPhone accidentally got wet on a trip and as I had not the tools to open it and manually clean it I decided to dunk the entire thing in 91% isopropyl alcohol for a minute or two. The touch wasn't working and the screen had vertical lines of slightly darker pixels. Those issues where fixed after dunking. However, the backlight is now extremely dim and very difficult to see anything. But everything else seems to be fine. Its not worth spending much money on because if I could fix it I'd sell it for her anyway as it's old and she can borrow a secondary phone I have. I'll have access to my tools by Sunday to do proper maintenance.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Not related to the repair but I think iMedic abandoned iFixit. He has not answered or asked a question for quite a substantial time now. I think Minho is the right guy for the question.

Yeah, I haven't seen him in over a year. I really liked him. @mayer have you had any contact with iMedic at all?

da

You tagged the wrong Mayer lol, @mayer you have been summoned

da

@ajcooke01 Not a word.

da

@pccheese Yeah. I think iMedic quit. Too bad.

Dunking the whole phone tend to ruin any plastic/glue part. Now you have to replace the cameras, backlight plates and most of the adhered parts.

Yeah, I agree with Tom. And if the IPA gets between the LCD and backlight, you could have image problems as well. It's not the best thing to do but if it allows to save the data, it's a worthwhile strategy.

Wouldn't that just make the adhesive parts less secure inside the phone? The only other reason I could see it having an affect is it distorting the light coming from the backlight. I plan on putting in a foodsealer at home to suck any remaining juices out.

Also, why is iFixit not selling iPhone 6 screens?!

da

@pccheese iFixit does sell iPhone 6 screens, silly. ;-)

@ajcooke01 weird, that page said "Unavailable" yesterday. Maybe it was an alternate, discontinued listing. Thanks.
