iPhone 5S won't charge. Physical issue on Rebuild

I replaced the battery in my 5S, I’ve done this in two phones.. and this dumb issue comes to surface that they no longer want to charge, unless I bump the bottom of my phone against something like my palm.

Why is this happening? Something is physically stopping it from charging, and I can’t figure out what it is.. it’s like something’s shorting.

All I did was replace the battery in one iPhone

The other, I replaced the board.

Both function 100% but randomly, maybe once a week, decide not to take a charge unless I physically hit the device on something to ‘wake it up’ to charge again. Very annoying.

iPhone 5s has a few very small components right aside the battery connector, in the small space between the connector and the metal shield. I’ve seen quite a few times components lifted away or solder joints damaged by mistake when removing the connector and this might be case too. You’ll need a good light source and good magnification to see capacitors and resistors and gently check if they are solidly in place or they slightly move about. You might find empty shiny solder joints too, give it a check.

I don't know if it's possible that I've done this for BOTH iPhones.. besides, a bump against the bottom of the iPhone wouldn't fix something like that.. would it? :f

I wouldn't be surprised someone does the same based on one's abilities, style, ect..a bit like handwriting, turns out one writes letters always the same way. If you don't know, neither do I..but you can check, I can only speculate.

I'm confident I didn't damage anything like that, a simple reboot sometimes fixes the issue.

I have a feeling it's because I didn't stick it down enough, I can hear the battery moving about inside the device, perhaps it's a safety measure in the iPhone to not charge the battery if it's loose?

Next time I replace it I'll stick it down proper.

I check what Arbaman says? That is the main damage to that failure. If you do not know there are pieces there, you can break as many iPhones as you try to repair.

You can take a picture if you are not sure.

Is the Cables from the dock seated correctly? They might be a bit loose meaning they are only just connecting therefore when you bump it against your palm it rejoins them temporarily.

I’ve had it before but on a 6… the charging port was very temperamental after a chassis replacement and turned out the connected had not been seated properly. they should be quite snug, do not put too much pressure or your damage the connector!

My Battery is loose, perhaps I need to stick it back down with some double sided tape..

Perhaps it’s moving the battery that fixes it. Or there’s some sort of protection circuit that stops the battery from charging, as the iPhone thinks it’s broken?
