Broken ribbon cable for home assembly

After replacing a screen for the phone the part that bends on the flex cable assembly tore off. Is there anyway possible to either tape it back or replace the home button and restore touch I’d? I've heard that it has been possible for people to replace the home button assembly and getting the touch Id to work somehow via dfu mode. Please help! All pins are in tact it's literally that black ribbon piece that bends tore.

That's because you can only insert pictures in a question or answer, not in a comment. I did it for you so you can change back you're avatar.

Soluzione Prescelta

Can you please post a picture of the damaged Home Button. There are a few options available to you depending on what the level of damage is and where it is located.

  1. Apple will replace the HB if you bring it in for a screen repair.
  2. The Link CCR posted is a solution but it isn’t a complete solution yet but can be useful if Apple refuses to do the repair and only offer to replace the device
  3. There is a flex repair kit available but it really depends on where you’re HB was damaged.

Either way, you are looking at having to spend around $100-150 to get this fixed.

With the damage you have, then option 3 is possible, see this video. It's a lot harder than it looks though and not every shop is offering this service.

It looks extremely difficult. Is a refurbished mobo with its home assembly out of the question?

da

It's certainly not a DIY repair, I apologize if that's what you inferred from my answer. Buying a used/refurb logic board and home button is usually just as expensive as getting a used phone. The cheapest and surest solution is probably a fix by Apple.

Youve been heaven sent. Im really contemplating the mobo replacement from ebay some of them have the phone home button assembly. If that fails, i might consider taking it to apple but i have a feeling they will not service it or it will cost more than $100

That link doesn't really help. It's the black ribbon cable from the home assembly that tore. I wanted to know if I could piece it back together because I hear only the home button that comes with the phone makes touch I'd work. I also saw that via dfu mode with a new home assembly cable it can be restored. At this point I'm also thinking of buying a new logic board with a hole button assembly and see if it works

Once the ribbon is torn it will never be replaceable with any over the counter part. The home button is married to the motherboard. The solution I posted is a fix to get the home button working again. Touch id will never work.

Thank you! Given the logic behind the home button and mobo would you suggest getting another mobo that brings the home button ? Iveveren some refurbished online
