Monitor turns off after 5 seconds

I had a philips monitor (don’t know model no more) for now about a year, yesterday turning on my computer there was no image so I thought my monitor was off (was the case) though I couldn’t menage to turn it back on. Unplugged power cable and plugged it back, it worked so didn’t bother about it. Today I turn my monitor on, since I turned it off yesterday, no problem for about 5-10 seconds, then turns off, I had to unplug the power cable again to make it work. Is this monitor going to die or is it the power cable? If it’s the monitor then I’d better like to know so I can save up and buy a new one. Thanks!

What is it hooked up to? Does it have a video card?

da

it’s hooked to my PC, directly to the graphic card

Hi @mrdboy

do you have the monitor model no?

on some older monitor models, esp on CCFL era, some power boards are affected by bad capacitor.

da

I’ll check for model, don’t think still have the box though

@mrdboy

No worries, behind the monitor should have a label, mentioning about your lcd monitor built, etc

@mrdboy

if another monitor works properly on your computer, it is most likely the power board that is failing on your Philips monitor. Check the boards with a multimeter and let us know what you find. Disassemble your monitor and post some good pictures of the boards with your question. That will allow us to see what you see. Aggiungere immagini ad una domanda

@oldturkey03 just turned on my computer, no problem, since it’s still under warranty for a few days at the store I won’t disassamble it. One more thing to note, this monitor is making weird random clicking noise since I bought it, still doing it right besides me atm

da

Good decision. The clicking could be a relay on the power board as well as a few other parts. Replace it under warranty.
