I was given an early 2015 MacBook with Retina display, dead motherboard. I found a cheap second hand MacBook with a broken Retina display, but it’s a mid-2015. Can I transfer the working display on the later MacBook? If not, can I swap the motherboard?

You should be good to go! These displays are almost identical to each other. You should not have any problems.

Thanks, that’s good news! Looks like the mid-2015 wasn’t around for very long, must have been just a quick speed bump to keep people patient until the spacebar thing was released!
