Emergency brake engaged light on the dashboard is always on.

The ABS light on the dashboard never comes on in the few light bulb and system self test seconds after starting the car. ABS scanner shows it can’t communicate with the car’s computer. At the same time, the parking brake On. Warning indicator on the dashboard never goes off. Last night, I noticed a front headlight yellow parking lamp light bulb is burned out. The emergency brakes do operate correctly and all new brakes were replaced recently. The brake shop says the ABS problem is tied to the Emergency brake light always being on. They want $600 to fix both issues. Could a burned out abs indicator light bulb on the dashboard be responsible for no communication with the abs computer? Is the front headlamp bulb I discovered tied to anything else i’ve mentioned. I’ll replace that headlamp bulb later today but still have the abs no com issue and the always on parking brake warning light always on since 2011. Is it possibly my yellow parking headlamp has been burned out since 2011?

What are they estimating the $600 for? The no communication issue is likely a fault in the ABS module. This issue presents itself similarly to the symptoms you mentioned. I’m not sure if GM used the same Electronic Brake Control Module on their sedans as they did on their trucks, but they were notorious for a common fault with broken solder joints. Here is a YouTube video of someone repairing it themselves. Again, this might not apply to your car but I’d look into it before spending the $600.

Travis, you may have “hit the ball out of the park” with your answer. If a cold solder joint has the EBCM not communicating with the ABS scanner or a connector is corroded and is causing that, my problems may all be fixable for cheap. I have no problem digging into electronic soldering or electronic corrosion repairs myself. Tomorrow it’s all about finding where the controller is and then fixing it or getting one from a junk yard somewhere. Thanks for your opinion. I watched the YouTube video you suggested.

You're welcome! I hope it works in your case. I've performed this repair on a couple Chevy Trailblazers in the past and it solved the issue. Keep us updated on if it works.

This is probably a very stupid answer but have you tried messing with the emergency brake to get the light to turn off. Also if you have a OBD-II scanner or know someone with one you can probably clear the code and get the light to turn off.
