iPhone SE not powering on after using the wrong screen!

I know I am going to get called stupid for what I have done, but I was wondering if someone could help me diagnose what the issue is. Here is what happened.

I took the old screen off my iphone SE to test to see if it still worked with a screen that I had in my parts bin. It turns out that the screen I tried to use was an iphone 5C screen.

The phone didn’t power up, but there was a spark that came off the board and it got really hot

I have since purchased a new battery, screen and dock connector for the phone and I can feel that the battery and dock connector are getting warm (suggesting that there is power going to the board) The screen is not showing anything and the phone is not showing in itunes.

I have the tools and knowledge needed to replace chips on the board, but I can’t for the life of my figure out what has happened! If anyone could help me that would be great :)

Thanks! A very stupid hobbyster!

You’ll want to search the web to find a schematic for the iPhone 5C (we can’t share them here but they are easy to find). Then start probing your way through the backlight circuit and the LCD drive circuit (see page 7 of the schematic). Those are usually the circuits that get killed.

However, you may have more problems than that so be prepared to invest some time looking through the schematics (get the boardview file while you’re at it).

As for soldering, if you’ve never worked on an iPhone logic board, don’t underestimate the level of skill (or experience) involved. The component density is insanely high and any mistake will be quickly amplified. To boot, the 5C is smothered in underfill which makes working on these devices a bad trip.
