Logic board A1661 broken

Hi,

My logic board is broken on the upperside, the thinner part on the side, so it does not work the hold, up an down keys, wifi Bluetooth coverage and main camera. Can i swap the necesaries chips (ic) to a another logic board in perfect status? Witch chips need swap? Also i have a empty bare logic board, can i swap all of them instead?

My phone A1661 iphone 7 plus 128gb jet black. Thanks. Ricardo.

@ajcooke01 Dan is not the pro on phones, recommend Ben in Australia @benjamen50, Minho in USA @refectio or Rany in Damascus @rany

@mayer not to nitpick but isn’t Minho in Canada?

NAFTA baby...we're all the same (at least for now :>).

@mayer saying I’m in Damascus is like saying you’re in Columbia.

I’m in Lebanon.

If the logic board is physically snapped in two pieces, there’s not much you can do to save it. It would be impossible to repair this.

As for your other options, transferring the critical IC’s (CPU/NAND/BBCPU/EEPROM) to another board is a lot of work and the potential for catastrophic damage is quite high. Besides, if you have another working board, better to just use it. The only exception here is if data recovery is critical but IMO, the damaged logic board is probably functional enough to get the data out.

Finally, bare logic boards aren’t worth much. There’s no guarantee that all of the internal traces are good (that’s probably why it’s available for sale in the first place, part of a defective batch) and even then, migrating thousands of components is not practical and probably nearly impossible to do successfully without automation.

Hi Minho,

It just crack only in one side. Even is not cracked in two pieces at all. Maybe only the first layer traces are compromised. If this right, can be repair by solding the micro traces?

Now, you named four chips. Are those enough to transfer all the phone to the other logic board, if apply an accurate technique of microsolding? (The other logic board have IC lock)

Thanks

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. I thought the board was broken completely.

It really depends on how much damage there is. You probably can't tell just by looking at it, there may still be inner trace damage. As for the IC's, that's what you need to transfer if you want to have the same data. They are all code locked together and must be transplanted as a set (plus TouchID/Home Button).

Ok, already have identify the NAND, CPU(A10), BBCPU. But which one is the EEPROM? Can you share schematics of this phone indicating this chips, please? I am going to transfer all this chipset to the other logic board. Hope good results. Thanks.

I don't want to offend you but how much experience do you have on micro-soldering micro-BGA IC's? If you don't have access to schematics or don't know where the EEPROM (U1101) is, then my concern is that you don't have much experience. Removing, reballing and re-soldering the CPU is a very advanced repair. If you are doing this to learn, then by all means, enjoy yourself. But if your goal is to save the data and it is important or critical to you, you should be practicing this on some dead boards before to see if you can do it successfully.

Good luck. Show us pictures of your progress as you go.

I also assure you that you have a job lined up for you anywhere in the world if you succeed in transferring everything to a bare board.
