Display not working, HDMI out and Thunderbolt okay?

Hello guys, after a bit of help with this one.

So, I was using my Mac one day, left it on my desk for a day, and the next day I opened it, no screen. Total black. No backlight or nothing. I’ve powered it on and off multiple times, following all apple instructions, and still nothing.

Every single other feature on the on the laptop works perfectly, FaceTime camera etc. And the display appears on an external monitor as if there was no issues.

The machine has never been dropped, and for the backlight and display to just suddenly stop working for no reason at all has me baffled.

Any ideas? Any cables I can try to disconnect/reconnect on the inside?

many thanks in advance.

Try to perform Option + Shift + control while switching on the Mac for SMC reset and command + option + P + R for PRAM reset may be it works for you

Use a flashlight shining through the Apple logo in the lid are you able to see the faint images of your desktop and its icons? If you do your backlight driver needs replacing on the logic board and you may have some corrosion damage. If you don’t see an image then you likely have corrosion damage on the logic board display connector.

So, shining the light through the back indeed shows that the screen is working without a backlight. However there seems to be a log of lag when using. Almost like there’s a big software glitch? Going through a fresh install of macOS now, and have also checked the connector underneath. All seems well. Any ideas?

Sorry to say, redoing the OS install won’t fix this.

The backlight driver is a chip on the logic board and there is a fuse link beside it both will need to be checked. If the system is lagging the it does sound like you got your system wet at some point. Your SMC services has a sensor error so it’s telling the CPU to go into safe mode.
