Has anyone replaced the LCD touch screen on a Fujifilm X70?

A crack in the glass has blacked out the lower left portion of the screen. The photos produced are still fine, but framing is difficult and I can’t see any data in that part of the screen. I’ve ordered a replacement part but have never tried messing with something like this. Anyone been there?

I highly recommend you watching tutorials on how to disassemble ‘n reassemble your camera model or series similar

but to be sincere I doubt that’s gonna be available because most people don’t bother fixing internal camera problem them selves there should to be tutorials on how to fix broken hinge, case and all kind of outer layer part of the cams which might be called life hack or something. hence little to no diy for it but you might be lucky

try searching for online community and forums if youtube wasn't an option

hope you find a way to fix it bruv

cheers

I'm afraid I can't confirm the source. Threw the packaging away long ago and I can't find an online record anywhere. But I am confident that every one of the many sources on eBay and on Amazon are all getting identical screens made in China, so you might as well choose the price and shipping combination that appeals to you and go for it. They're all the same, I'm positive. Just be careful when installing, especially when connecting the electronics. Good luck and keep shooting!

Thank you for answering!

I think I’ll wait for your possible confirmation if that rongyuanxie part was the one you ordered and do the same..

Well, I managed to do it the hard way. When my new screen arrived I still had not located an online tutorial of any kind, so I just started disassembling the thing; fortunately the X70 has a semi-articulating screen so it was a more or less discrete part and didn’t require opening up the whole camera. Step one: remove the battery. Step two: remove five screws in the frame where the screen rides. Step three: disconnect the two (one large, one small) electronic connections that mate the camera’s computer to the circuit board affixed to the screen’s metal backing plate. Step four: remove the tape securing the screen assembly to the articulating frame. Step five: using a spudger, gently pry off the circuit board mentioned in step three. It is affixed to the metal backing plate with double-sided tape, which you’ll need a new piece of when reassembling it later. Step six: remove the old screen assembly. Step seven: do everything in steps one through six, but in reverse. Took a couple of hours, including a trip to the store to buy an eyeglass repair kit to get the tiny Phillips head screwdriver I needed. Saved a whole lot of money.

Hey there, I to have managed to strip down the screen and replace it with a new one from china, but the screen just blinks on and off constantly. They sent another screen for me to try but it had the same fault. The original screen still works when i refit it but like yours, its cracked. Do you have a link for the screen you purchased by any chance.

Regards

Hi. I would also like to know this one as I don't want end up buying an unsupported/fake screen unit.

I'm almost certain it was the $19.99 screen from rongyuanxie on eBay.

Apologies for the elapsed time here. I just got an email from ifixit letting me know there were questions here. I'm afraid I don't know where I ordered the screen from. I'd assumed it was a vendor on Amazon, but I've reviewed my 2018 purchases and that doesn't show up. I'm on the road at the moment but will research this when I get home next week to see if I can figure out where I ordered it. I can tell you that several months later the screen still works fine, including all the touch functions. I do have to report that the upper right corner of the screen gets warm when I've had the camera on for several minutes, but it doesn't effect anything. I still love my X70 and use it almost daily.

Frank Favale, I just learned of your question. I don’t have any photos, sorry. Should have documented the process. FYI, I eventually sold my first X70, the silver one that I repaired, and bought a black model, which is the finish I’d wanted in the first place. It’s now developed a very small crack at the bottom left of the screen, where my first one had the much larger problem. If this one grows I’ll probably do the same repair, and I’ll photograph it. For now, though, I’ve had a glass screen protector on this one ever since I first noticed this crack, and it hasn’t gotten worse. I’m not going to mess with it if it stays small.

And no, I don’t recall any additional screws.
