MacBook bottom case is deformed

Hi, I bought my Macbook brand new in 2016 (mid 2015 model) and I was using it 99% of the time at home.

The problem is that I’ve started noticing that my rubber feet doesn’t actually touch the table, it’s the Macbook’s “belly” that is touching the table. First thing I thought was that my battery is failing and it deformed the bottom case of the laptop. I’ve checked and battery status is OK and it has only 60 cycles. Another thought I had was that the rubber feet got very thin because of the age.

Could you please help me, how do I check what is wrong with it?

No, your first assumption was correct! The battery is failing.

Think of it like this if you freeze a soda can the top & bottom will pop out as the water needs to expand and the bottom has more area to expand.

This is the exact same issue here the battery cell is swelling up pressing on the bottom cover. The battery health info won’t see this until its too late.

I would still visit an Apple Store or Apple authorized service center and ask for a warranty exception as its clearly a defect as long as you didn't create the conditions for it to fail. Did you get your system wet? If not then yo should be able to get it fixed.

In the mean time make a back up of your stuff and then stop using your system and don’t charge the battery either. Place the computer away from anything flammable and way from heat or sun.

Have exact same issue. Still under warranty with applecare (for another couple weeks) hoping Apple will handle. What did Apple do for you?

Just got my MacBook Pro back from Apple Repair -- thanks to these posts I knew what to ask for when I called in the pop sound and the felt deflection on the bottom of the case to Apple support. Fortunately the Genius Bar crew believed me -- opened the case and verified that the batteries were just beginning to swell and expand. Thanks so much for saving damage to my Mid 2015 MacBook Pro. Big Tip -- my laptop was very dirty inside. I was putting it on the floor on its edge and leaning it against the couch. Lot of dust was being pulled in. I see now that vacuuming keys gently is a good thing. Air blowing is not because it will shoot dust inside. The Genius Bar lady told me she will clean my laptop for free. Just bring it in for internal cleaning.
