Washer Beeps when power button is held, but does not power on

Hello,

I have a kenmore elite washer 796 41073310. When you press the power button breifly nothing happens. However, if you press and hold the power button. There is a beep and the LED display along with the LED light in the washer compartment, briefly light up.

This will continue for as long as you press and hold the power button.

This problem has been intermitant for the last month or so. If we let it sit, it will eventually work for a load or 2. Then stop again.

Rich Ledvina all Kenmore 796 models are actually made by LG, so let's see what we find. You have downloaded the SM from the bottom of this page Kenmore Elite HE3 Washing Machine and tried to see if the diagnsotics works for your machine?

I have kenmore elite top load and it is touch screen. 2 of the touch screen buttons does not work and does the same as you described.

To prevent the annoying beep tones, do not press and hold the power button.

To reset it, unplug it for 5 minutes.

You have to inject a little humor every once in a while.

Kenmore Elite HE3 washing machines are capable of diagnosing problems with many of the internal components through an automated test. You might want to test for faults if the washer fails to complete a cycle or displays an alphanumeric error code on the screen. Once started, the HE3 diagnostic test fills, drains and spins the drum. The process takes several minutes to complete. Technicians use diagnostic mode to help pinpoint the source of trouble.

Step 1

Empty the drum and turn the washing machine off.

Step 2

Press the "Power" button to turn the appliance on and spin the cycle selection dial to "Rinse/ Drain & Spin."

Step 3

Tap the "Spin Speed" button until "No Spin" is selected.

Step 4

Press the "Steam Treat" button four times in quick succession. The washer enters diagnostic mode and begins performing tests.

Leaving it unplugged does nothing.

It never powers on with the button. Its as if nothing is happening when it is pressed.

Get into it with a multimeter and see where you are losing continuity. Look for loose wires, burned components, cold solder joints.

I have checked all the connections, the fuse on the control board, everything seems to be ok? I can not locate any troubleshooting manuals or documentation on this washer.
