iPhone 3G water damage won't turn on, but apple logo appears

My water bottle opened in by purse and spilled all over my iphone 3G. It has been a year since that happened and I am trying to see if I can fix it.

After the water damage occurred, the phone would not turn on. When I plug it into my computer, it shows the apple logo for about 10 seconds then goes black. I tried resetting it also.

I replaced the battery hoping this would fix the phone. Sadly, it did not. It is still acting the same as before I changed the battery. (I did notice that there were two white dots on the logic board. I was wondering if those were water indicators.)

Should I try to clean the logic board with isopropyl alcohol (>90%)? I'm not really sure how to do this. Do you just disconnect the logic board and apply the alcohol directly to the board with a paint brush?

Are there any replacements that seem obvious to you computer genius'? Maybe the dock connector would need to be replaced?

Thanks, the "electronics water damage" link is really helpful! I don't understand one part though:

"Next clean the cable ends of and debris, corrosion etc"

Does this mean the numbered connectors?

Also, if i submerge the logic board in isopropanol will it cause the copper sticker to come off? Will that cause problems?

No it should not remove anything. none of this will cause more damage than you already have...;-) By cleaning the cable ends I am referring to the flat cables that go into the connectors. Sometimes you will find debris, like contaminants from the water damage in there, or even white/gray/or greenish corrosion and debris at the ends. Basically just look at it and give it a quick clean with the alcohol since your submersion was drinking water.

I cleaned the phone as directed above and there is no change :-(

Any suggestions for what I can try now?

the battery may have been depleted beyond its lower limit, shorted by the water.

I'm *guessing* that there is enough juice to begin the boot process ( this is good, the phone is likely ok ) but not enough to complete the process.

Seems like your next step is to try another battery.

I saw the same thing with a dead battery in my 1G phone. It would begin to

boot ( apple logo ) but would never get any further until I hooked up a more powerful battery.
