Glass on oven door swinging free

Whirlpool RBS305PDS14 built in Oven

My friend wanted

help cleaning the glass on her oven door. Of course since I’m a “know it all”, on repairing things I volunteered.

We got the thing all torn down and cleaned the glass but it seems the bottom of the glass door is swinging free and I can find no way of attaching it. So Mr Know it All Repair guy has utterly failed with this repair and must come crying for help. It all looks fine and hangs OK but the bottom swings out when the door is opened. I can see no way to attach it. How about it @ladytech, can you help me out?

I have the same issue with a Westinghouse oven. The door consists of a rear metal frame with a glass plate and a fully glass front plate. At the base of the rear metal frame are two metal plates (screwed into place from the bottom), one near each hinge. Both plates have pads of silicon and there’s glue lines on the inner glass surface. A clear case of glue failure and a good example of designed to fail! Now I just have to find the right glue in Australia.

Philip Ellen, this is the part # W10841140. You can get this high temperature glue for use in ovens and for the glass at sears parts direct.com. Most auto parts stores will sell a high temperature glue as well. Even a good 2 sided tape will work. You are right, this is a very poor design flaw. The glass is expensive to replace and there is a good chance the glass could cause a safety issue.

I have the same issue with the Whirlpool model WFG505M0BB0 front door. The outer black glass bottom is separated from the metal frame. I took it all apart and it seems only two-sided tape is used to hold the bottom of the glass in place. The top is held by the screws for the handle. The sides seem to have groove to hold glass edge, but the glass is cut too wide, so it hangs over. Weird and cheap design it seems.

There should be 3 screws that screw into the bottom trim. I’m looking at the vent at the bottom of the inner door, by the top of the screwdriver. That might be attached wrong. The screws are small. Look with a flash light for 3 holes on the bottom of inner and outer door. Is the handle screwed down tight? I have run across a few models that have no screws. They are glued in place. Crazy but true. Did it feel like it was glued when removing it. Do you see a glue line?

@mayer searspartsdirect I found an adhesive used for ranges and high temp.

Part #W10841140

Sears sells it for $9.01

I believe it is just a silicone sealant for high temp

There's a special silicon around whitstanding temperatures up to 600C. degrees, it's meant for sealing stoves and ovens. Some of that and clamps to keep the glass in place until it dries should be all you need to do the job I guess. I used it some time back to seal a ceramic glass and it worked as it was supposed to.

That might work but I did not see any residue of adhesive on the glass.

@mayer I can't really figure out how it was kept in place from the pictures. Hope someone else can help getting some insight.

Having the brand and model name would help. But still, after disasembling, assembling or modifying almost every type of oven, stove, range, etc. Residential and comercial, many times over I have to agree with the three screw idea. Hi temp gland silicon are great for overall adherent and seal, silicon has good grabbing power. enoughNonetheless, both of these will slip unless clamped. Generally there are screws, not much, but there nonetheless. There purpose is to hold things together until the silicon, etc dries enough to hold by by itself.

I have the same issue with the Whirlpool model WFG320M0BW0 front door. The outer white glass bottom is separated from the metal frame. It appears to have three tapes looking that used to hold the outer glass bottom in place. I adjusted the top screws but no help. I didn’t see any screws, big or small, at the bottom to hold the glass in place.

I bought an ‘oven door-glass high temperature glue kit’ on eBay from a seller in the UK (ships to USA, even CA ;-). This is reported (by seller) to be the same factory high temperature glue as the original. I used it for a Thermador, others reported 5-star success in using it to repair Bosch, GE, etc. ... here is the link for the glue I used: https://www.ebay.com/itm/OVEN-GLASS-DOOR...

OR: just search online ‘Oven Glass High Temperature Glue’ and look for the UK seller ... it purports to be the same as the OEM glue. But, it does work well.

Follow-Up: The repaired ‘Thermidor’ Glass Oven Door has remained a solidly perfect repair after using: https://ovendoorglue.com/ (The Original Factory Glue “OEM”). If one takes care and time, read/watch-vid 3x prior to initiating a repair ... then I would expect a perfect happy solution to the “failed sticky tape, and failed glue” problem with glass oven door separation ... the website is a wealth of educational information the problem. Getting the actual OEM glue is essential to a long lasting repair.

UPDATE (Sept 21, 2023)

-STILL A PERFECT FIX!

The re-glued repaired Thermador Oven remains rock-solid ! The Oven Glue I ordered from Ebay (shipped in 1 wk from UK) IS EXCEPTIONAL!!! It really works and lasts!!
