Disabled 21+ million minutes?

My iPod Touch is disabled for 21 million minutes after not using it for a few days. I tried restoring in DFU mode, but the file always errors when it is downloading through iTunes. I tried downloading the latest firmware manually, and during the restore it gets Error Code 18. I have the latest iTunes. Nothing works. Please help :(

John Pinheiro, here is my answer from a similar question: How to I fix my disabled iPod Touch? Apple says, "If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons." Now there is a way to erase the password, but I am not sure if this would work when you are already disabled. I guess you can always try and hope you have a Windows computer :-) Anyhow, you plug in your iPod. Open My Computer (or Computer for Vista). Click on Folder options and enable to view hidden files. Next, go to iPod_control and click on the folder named Device. If your iPod is locked, there will be a file _locked. Rename the file to _unlocked. Remove your iPod and it will be cleared. Again, not sure if it works for a disabled one. Just thought of something else. Make sure you have your library backed up.

Also, check what Apple has to say about that on here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

You can also try to use recboot available here which possibly gets your device into recovery mode.

How to restore iPod touch? another answer similar to yours. Let us know what works and how it is going.

Good Luck

i think could be the most technologically impaired person i know. cause i can't find half the stuff so it wont unlock :/

da

kazzandra, here is a way to fix it but YOU WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA. Hope you got it backed up. Go into DFU Mode and restore.

DFU Mode

Connect your iPod to your computer

Turn your iPod Off

Press and hold the power button for 3 Seconds

While continuing to hold the Power button, press the home button as well for 10 seconds

Keep holding down the home button, release the power button for another 10 seconds

iTunes should now detect the iPod in recovery mode, press OK, and restore your iPod. Now you can release the buttons. If you have not reached this point, then you have not entered DFU Mode. Here is a youtube video and here another one Might help you.

If you guys want a good and works really well answer, here it goes.

Step 1: Take the Apple USB device and plug it in your iPod but not in the computer.

Step 2: Turn the iPod off.

Step 3: (difficult ;) hehe) Hold down the home button and don't let go! Plug in the USB device into the computer. Don't release the home button until you see iTunes pop up or an Apple on your screen.

Step 4: It will turn to DFU mode. It will tell you to restore.

Hope this works for you!!!

;) Good Luck.

Bizz-out!!!

I had a similar problem with my phone about 6 mths ago. i didnt want to have to restore factory settings because it was before the icloud and i wasnt sure how long it had been since i had backed it up.

i searched and found a program called recboot it is great (esp with windows) to easily put it back in recovery mode without requiring any altering.

my daughters ipod has just done this 22mill minutes thing as it has been off for a few weeks. i started searching again, everyone was saying the same as before.i did try plugging it in to itunes, but it kept sating it couldnt recognise it as it was locked, but there was no opportunity to put the password in, then i remembered i had this software on my laptop. I plugged it in and within seconds, it was back to just asking for the password, en voila... back to normal.

its so worth having on the computer. RecBoot, look it up. Its gold!

Ok, we had the same problem. Basically, what we did was plug the device in and let it charge for about 10 minutes. Then we unplugged the device after we read the post that told us what to do by going through "my computer". But by doing that, we realized that the computer was not recognizing the device. So we unplugged it from the computer, at the USB port, and then plugged it back in. ( We were hoping that this would make the computer recognize the device). As soon as we plugged it back in, the 22 million second message went away and we were able to enter the password and use the device. I think the problem was really just a low battery charge.

Same thing happened to my sons, what worked for me was plugging the iPod into the computer, opening up itunes and doing a diagnostics test. It fixed the problem!

I have had this happen to my ipod just today! i went on here and followed the advice everyone gave, but it turns out all you have to do is plug it in to your computer for a few minutes, and if you remember your password, you can get right back on to your ipod without erasing your data!

Absolutely correct ;-) if you remember your password. The issue here is that people get locked out because they do not remember their password:-)

i bought an ipod touch off of ebay, that was being sold for parts or repair, it said that it would not power on and and i tunes would not recognize it when connected to there pc. i had bought one that was simular before and had no problem getting it up and running. if i were you i would try a different pc with i tunes ( you might lose everything on it) but it is worth getting it back up and running. make sure your usb cord is good i have had several go bad for no reason. one of them i started off fresh and restored to factory settings like it was new and the most recent score of mine actually let me start it up and i have over 1500 songs that are mostly my kind of music that i get to keep, just have to figure out how to get itunes to let me save it and share with my other one. good luck i hope i have been some help.....:)

If you encrypt an iPod Touch backup on iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
