Magsafe voltage dc adapter or dc board?

Hi!

My macbook early 2008 was working good but sudently turned off. Friends openned macbook and said me that my logical board have corrosion.

I bought a new logical board and following the tutorial for change logical board that have here, i get out the old logical board but it looks good, so my debout is about my magsafe.

I tested my magsafe adpter in the L connector and i give 17.4V. Is this value correct???

So i try to test my magsafe inboard and i dont got any value in the conector for logical board, so how i can check my inboar magsafe???

Thanks for all and sorry for any english error!

Becarefull in your measuring as you can easily damage either your MagSafe charger or your logic board!

If I understand correctly the MagSafe connector is not passing the power from the power adapter to the logic board. This is not that uncommon as the pressure & heat of the connection distorts the plastic so the connection within the MagSafe connector. Here is the IFIXIT guide to replace it: MacBook Core 2 Duo Magsafe Board Replacement and here is the needed part: MacBook MagSafe DC-In Board

Also here is a good reference on what to check with the MagSafe adapter as well as the connector its self: Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters and here's a good diagram of the pin assingments: Wikipedia - MagSafe

Hi Dan.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, I think my adapter isn't passing energy to the logic board.

My other question is: One MagSafe is getting 17.4 volts on L connector and other with T connector I can't get any voltage. This 17.4 volts are correct?

Thanks! Hudson

Review the two links I gave you at the end. You have one bad adapter and one working one but is it the correct one for your system and is the MagSafe connector in good shape?

Hi Dan! I saw links but dont become clear for me. Yes, the adapter with 17.4Volts are the original of my macbook, but now the logical board and magsafe inboard arent working and in links you gave, says 16.5 or 18.5 volts, not 17.4, this is my debout! Thanks Dan!

If you are measuring at the disconnected logic board power connector you should see the voltage.

If you connect the power connector on the logic board and you no longer see the voltage at the connector, what would cause that? Hint: its something wrong on the logic board.

I would suspect you have a shorted MOSFET caused by the bad charger. You may also have a few other components damaged here as well.

Hi Dan.

Yeah, i bought a new logical board and im going to buy a new magsafe board! But, i think i have a bag magsafe wall adapter, just because i measured 17.4Volts directly into L conector (i saw in links you posted that adapter need to get 6.5 or something near this with no conection with logical board), so, do you think i need to buy a new magsafe wall adapter??

Thank you very much!

Hudson
