USB ports problem on modified mac mini late 2006 - El Capitan install

Hi all. I have been updating my late 2006 mac mini. Changed for an SSD, made an efi upgrade and added 4GB of RAM, changed CPU to a T7600. Succeeded in running OSX Lion smoothly. And tried to install El Capitan. It looks like it is installed properly but I can't really tell, I can't pass the password screen of the session : my bluetooth keyboard is not recognized because I didn't have the chance to have it synchronized with this computer under this OS, and when I plugged a USB keyboard, I realized all USB ports are not running (they are are the beginning of the boot, but then not when the system loads). Any idea how I can fix this ?

I have 2 OS installed in different partitions on the macmini : this El Capitan stuck and I can boot to a working Lion (if need to make changes to files in the El Capitan partition).

Cheers.

I cant remember but you can check if there is a file that you can modify to continue installation without setup on mac ... or Might some kexts can help you with it thereno way to know it if it stack to installation screen . I hope that you can find a logitech unify keyboard or mouse to test it out, from a friend... , that you attach it on usb slot and is generic... you will have more chances to work....

@mayer probably could help.

Hi Sorry guys I got in a tunnel of work... Thank you so much for answering.

I got a Logitech k120 USB keyboard from work and can confirm it works under Lion. Then at the begging of the boot, I can choose the disk partition / OS I want to boot with using the keyboard, but the keyboard stays inactive when I reach account password step on the El Capitan boot.

I saw posts about kexts but wasn't clear enough for me as I am not a techy. I can follow a procedure but not much more. That's how I modified the macmini so far... Thanks for all this @ssavva05

I will have a look at what @mayer posted and will get back...

Have a look here also: https://github.com/TMRJIJ/OS-X-Yosemite-...

This is must be compatible with el-capitan also.

I don't have mac mini to test it, but it might be helpful for you.

You can install waterfox on osx 10.7 (Is something like firefox), to have modern browsing experience to get this workaround...

Hi again. I saw this page before, indeed. Never had MacPostFactor working but did the manual way of installing on an external drive and patching files and cloning to a partition of the macmini disk. That's how I got here. Maybe I will stop trying el capitan and turn back to Yosemite... Thanks for the waterfox suggestion as well.

Just an educated guess, but I am having a similar problem right now. Looks like the El Capitan goes to 64 bit processing instead of 32 bit. Here's my issue but it's on a machine that should take even High Sierra but it won't go past Yosemite. My next try will be to take it down to 4 GB of RAM

Kernel Panic with El Capitan and above

Thank you very much @mayer for taking the time. I read your other thread. I believe this is a tough one we are both on, if you're stuck too.

In my update process I just thought the efi update I did allowed the machine to work on 64 bits but maybe I understood wrongly. Is there any way to help El Capitan run on 32? Or am I talking nonsense? I just don't know really :)

da

your mac was not designed to run on 64 bit os. and no cant change it to 32bit with el cap unfortunately.

da

Ok then. What would you suggest as the highest safe OS then? Mountain Lion? Higher?

da

After further research it does not appear the be a 32 bit issues as any process with dual core should handle 64 bit. The problem is I can't tell on yours because the T7600 was never used in a MacMini. As I mentioned in my answer, mine will run on Yosemite.

Please check here and there is some usb kexts

7a- We need kexts. We are using tones of kext from TMRJIJ - OS X Hackers (for example, Beta-USB-Kexts). To make things easy, you have them all zipped in this link: all-kexts. Download, unzip and copy them into /Volumes/Capitann/System/Library/Extensions/.

USB Issue using this method: You need to have something connected to one of the USBs when booting if you want El Capitan to detect USB devices. It can be a small USB stick, for example.
