LCD Dim and Touch Not Working After Screen Replacement

I am replacing the LCD & Digitizer on a Samsung Core Prime for Straight Talk (SM-S820L). I have tried two different screen replacements from two different vendors and in both cases the LCD is very dim on startup and the touch does not work. All connections seem fine, but I have not fully installed either screen. Like some other Samsungs, does the LCD and digitizer need to be fully installed to work properly? And/or does the digitizer need to be in direct contact with the LCD or frame? Does the LCD & digitizer need to be glued together?

The customer's LCD and touch were both working before the repair, just had a crack in the glass. I did remove the battery prior to any work, of course. I cannot seem to get this thing solved.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hey Trevor!

No it doesn't have to be fully installed, but i can say from experience getting parts for this model is complete !&&*. I stopped working on them because of this.

I'd first make sure the LCD is compatible. Is the flex on the new LCD the exact same as the old one? If not, it wont work. And if it is in fact the wrong screen, chances are the touch screen won't work either since since it's plugged into an incompatible LCD

Yeah...I'm not sure. One of my techs threw away the old screen before I could compare. I also don't do these repairs anymore, but again, a tech brought it in. OK, thanks. I think I will order a used one with same model and try a board swap. Appreciate the help though!

Yep, That's exactly what i ended up doing. Just be careful during removal because you have to disssasemble from the front without damaging the screen! Can't stand devices that are glued to the mid frame
