Unibody MBP bottom case?

Hi,

I recently replaced the bottom case on my Mid-2012 Unibody MBP. I noticed, that the unit I was replacing had a sort of cushion around the middle of the panel (would be covering the RAM slots). The 2011 replacement I'd bought did not have this, and after installing it there's a lot of flex when pushing down on the middle that wasn't previously there. It also becomes very, very warm just during normal use.

Is there any way to fix this, maybe with an aftermarket "cushion"? Why was this implemented with the new model anyway?

Here's the replacement: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/EY8AAOSwH... Here's the original: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/arYAAOSww...

Thanks in advance,

John.

I doubt the "cushion" would be responsible for more or less stiffness of the bottom cover. Have a look at the two aluminium tabs in the center..those should be fitting the two plastic clips you will find in the same position on the palmrest. Those are the two supports for the central part of the bottom plate and when closing you might need to put some pressure to match them correctly.

So here's the problem. One of the two plastic clip "holders" is broken, similar to this: https://i.stack.imgur.com/FnMo3.jpg, and I removed it since it could damage components under the shield. I noticed this about a year ago after doing a tb ssd install. The other, is very, very worn and I doubt either are doing their job of clipping onto the metal attachments on the bottom case. When I push down on the 2011 replacement, I can feel it touching the logic board, which I suppose isn't a good thing. Is there a way to replace these without doing a full upper case replacement? Otherwise I'll try to buy a mid-2012 bottom case which has this cushion, with which honestly the problem is fixed.

Thanks,

John

@jluelf I've got no idea where you could find replacements..you can try maybe some apple labs in your area or try sending a couple of ebay spares sellers near you some emails asking for them.

I honestly don't see the support offered by the cushion on the bottom as a particularly good thing..it puts pressure on the logic board ram area, without the clips in place I wouldn't recommend it.

Alright, thanks anyway.

Good luck..hope you can soon find the clips!

Yeah. Ended up buying a disfigured and bent top case from a 2010 model, just for the plastic clips. %#*@ I wish they just sold the center brackets with them attached.
