My screen is white with multi colors on boot

The whole screen is completely white and has vertical multicolor lines from the top to the bottom.

Someone has told me it is due to the laptop falling. How much would it cost to change the display of this MacBook Air?

I would first see if the system its self is working. Plug in an external monitor to check things out.
