I have the same problem with my Toshiba Model: 50L711U18. The back light turns off after 10-15 minutes. I tried to restart it but the back light doesn't turn on. I used flash light to check the video, and video is still there. I unplugged my TV for about 15-30 minutes then plugged it again, the back light Turned ON, but after 10 - 15 minutes it Turned OFF again.

I already replaced the power supply , thinking that this is the caused of the problem. But, it didn't changed anything!! The problem is still there.

Any suggestions Please...

Thanks

I have the same problem. I've removed the back cover as suggested in solution and can't see anything untoward on either of the boards. Can I send pictures for someone else opinion please?

@bazzdog sounds like your TV has issues with the power board not supplying the voltage for your backlight, your T-con board having failed or your backlight array failing. Unplug your TV and remove the back. Then take a look at all the boards. Check for obvious damaged components like leaking or domed looking capacitors. Check to ensure that all the wires are properly connected. Once you checked that, take some good pictures of your boards and post those with your question. Use this guide Aggiungere immagini ad una domanda for that. It will allow us to see what you see. You will need a multimeter to check the proper voltages so let us know what you find thus far.

no it stays black and you still can't see your picture in my mind there when you shine a flashlight in it and you still hear sound could it possibly be something to do with the volume and up and down switch

i think you have problem with backlight on TV, try this -> turn on the TV and wait for the screen to turn off then take the flashlight and shine on the screen if you see the image it means you have problem with the backlight.

Mine has done the same but with a light I can see the back round what do you rec.?

@stripperslust first you verify that you have no image on all inputs. If it remains dark, unplug it and push the power button for about one minute, then plug it back in. See if that resets your TV.

If it remains dark, use a flashlight and angle it against the screen with the TV at a channel where you can hear the sound See if you can make out shadows or shapes. If you do, then it is your backlight that has failed.Possibly LCD backlights strips, faulty power board. If you do not see anything, unplug your set and remove the back. then visually check the boards for any obvious damage. Check all the wiring and unplug the wires and plug them back in to make sure they are properly seated. It is possible that this is either a power board issue or a T-con board issue. If you need further info etc., we need your TV's make and model number.

Bumping an old post because this is an ongoing problem with these TV’s. It’s not an isolated hardware failure. The backlight power supply is inadequate and shuts down when running an maximum brightness. This will typically happen in a bright room when the backlight control is set for “Auto Brightness Adjust”.

Other than return the TV and never buy anymore Toshiba products, you can try turning the backlight down to 80% (Press and hold the Home button until the screen menu pops up). That will give you a somewhat less bright picture to look at but at least you can see it.
