Gasp! Coffee spill - powers on but no sound.

First and foremost- I did all the wrong things. I know this now. Please be kind in pointing out the things I’ve done wrong here.

I am a freelance writer. I work a lot in cafes. A full 12oz latte got side swiped and spilled onto my MacBook Air. I immediately picked it up and flipped it- though I neglected to turn it off (I know I know). I eventually did after reading that it was stupid of me to keep it on.

I kept it upside down for three days. Put a blow dryer on cool & low and propped it up about a foot away and let it blow gently on my upside down Mac for hours. Turned it on on the 5th day. Powers on. Keyboard works. Trackpad works. Sound does not. Speakers nor headphone jack. I got worried and shut if off. Nearest apple store is two hours away and I’m pretty sure they’ll hear “spill” and just tell me to replace the logic board or get a new one.

Any ideas? Was thinking of tearing it down to clean out any remnants of coffee & to see if the liquid indicator was showing.

Any help is welcome! Cheers.

Drying a liquid spill is pretty useless. Don't know what that latte would be where you are but that's milk in italian..ever seen what happens to milk after water has evaporated ? Yeah, a thick greasy layer covering the surface..imagine that on a board covered with electronic components carrying data and power all around. If it was coffe or even tap water wouldn't look as bad but the result would be the same. It's just a matter of time, but soon or very soon something will fry and die. What your closest Apple centre will say you've already predicted yourself.

All you can do is tear it apart after buying some isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush and clean the board as well as you can, then let it dry for a couple of days, better if in a airy and warm place.

You'll probably have to buy at least the audio/IO board since that seems already faulty, but that's not very expensive. Good luck!
