MacBook backlight keyboard does not work, and doesn't sleep when lid

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro 2012 13" (Non Retina) model,

The MacBook has no backlight keyboard and the MacBook does not sleep when you shut the lid.

I feel the issues are related and it could be damage to a ribbon cable, but I'm not sure what one.

I have tried SMC and PRAM Resets.

Thank you for any help

Bradley

Are you sure it's working?? No display, keyboard or trackpad sorta tells me its dead. Are you able to see your desktop using a flashlight through the Apple Logo?

What is the background here? Did the system get wet or dropped?

Hi Dan, sorry I think you misunderstood my question, the only issues are, that the MacBook does not go to sleep when you shut the lid, and the backlit keyboard does not work, apart from that the Mac works perfectly

da

Phew! Thats better!

You got to stop letting it drink Red Bull as I wouldn't sleep either ;-}

I have got the CD Drive working by disconnecting the ribbon and reconnecting it, I have 2 issues still, MacBook does not sleep on lid shut and backlight keyboard

It hasn't had water damage haha

You'll need a magnet and a paperclip (Steel). Using the paper clip you should find on the upper edge of the lid where the magnet is. I believe the 13" has two like the 15" (its been awhile). If you fold the display down you'll be able to locate the sensors location on the uppercase, using a magnet to set it off.

Are you able to put the system to sleep then?

As for the keyboard backlight you'll need to check the ribbon cable connection. Refer to this IFIXIT guide: Sostituzione Scheda Logica MacBook Pro 13" Unibody metà 2012] jump down to Step12 & 13.

If you can't get the system to sleep testing the sensor then you may have a similar problem with the ribbon cable jump to Step14 to check it out.

Thank you for the detailed reply Dan, I have just checked the ribbon for the backlight keyboard and it appears the connector / latch has actually came off the PCB, not repairable by me !

As for the display not sleeping when the MacBook lid is shut, I can feel the magnets in the display, there is two near the isight camera, holding the magnet near these does not make the Mac sleep.

I have another MacBook (Same generation)... and on that one I can make it sleep by rubbing the magnet to the left hand side of the keyboard, however on the one im trying to fix this does not cause it to sleep.... could this stand out as anything ?

Thanks again

I told you to stop feeding it Red Bull ;-}

Sadly the sensor is gone. Follow this guide: Sostituzione Batteria nel MacBook Pro 13" Unibody, versione metà 2012 as you need to get to the battery tester on the side where the battery is blocking access to it. Here's the needed part: Sleep Sensor/Battery Indicator Light - Apple P/N 922-9523

Haha ;)

Thank you Dan, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me
