I've ordered a video driver to convert my dead Late 2009 27" iMac (bad video card) into a stand-alone monitor for a new Hackintosh. I'm wondering if there's a similar hack that would allow me to keep and use the nice internal speakers. The cabling to the individual speakers loops simple enough. I'd love to use the audio-in port on the back and buy some little driver board that would allow this!

Why don't you get a small amp unit which you can hookup to the power supply internally? Mini Digital Amplifier Stereo Audio 12V Amp Board 15W+15W Dual Channel Car Speak

There is no longer an internal power supply. The board that I'm getting to drive the monitor might have a speaker connection. IDK yet.

@rgbfoundry the video driver board will most likely have an audio out. I am currently using 4 boards on four different panels and all the boards have an audio out. Problem with that is that it will work for a headset but not for speakers. It is non-amplified. You would have to come up with a way to go from the board to an amp to the speakers. You can use the power supply you are going to need for the driver board and split it off to supply the power for a small amp. I used the amp from a small set of PC speakers and it does work reasonably well. you may even have enough room to position all that in your gutted iMac. Let us know once you have the driver board and post some images on how you are going to place it and what power supply you are going to use.
