Battery won't charge, Magsafe connector stays green

I got a 2007 Penryn A1260 MBP with 4GB ram, 2.5Ghz processor. When I plug my power adapter in, it takes a while for it to light up and then it stays green, never goes amber. However, it does not charge and in OSX, the battery icon says "(Not Charging)" or sometimes it claims the battery isnt connected. It works fine otherwise (aka now its a desktop) and the battery is almost brand new. Does this indicate that I need to replace the left logic board? Or is there something else needed replacing? The USB port works fine, as does the audio out. Havent tested the mic in or expresscard slot, but I dont need those. I just want to charge my battery.

BTW, I have reset my PRAM and SMC with no luck

Test the computer with another charger, if it works, then you need a new AC adapter. You can also download coconut battery to test the health of your battery, if you need a new one you can get one here.

Other than those two the harder culprits to test are the magsafe board an battery connector. If the computer operates normally without connected to AC power and doesn't display any of these symptoms then it's the magsafe board. If your machine exhibits these problems (saying battery isn't connected, etc), while not connected to AC power, then it's the battery connector (sounds more likely anyways to me).

The first thing to do should be to download coconut battery, the battery's the most likely culprit here, four years is well past the expected lifetime.

" the battery is almost brand new"

That's a fair point actually- where did you get the new one from? Is it OEM?

what's OEM? I know but does the OP.

I got a brand new battery a few months ago. It all worked and then just stopped charging. I tested another power adaptor on my MBP, and the same thing happens. It takes a while for the light to turn on, when it does, its green, never amber. I check the charge of my battery on the bottom (with the little button) and get nothing. The battery I got was a replacement from apple covered under applecare

More likely this is Apple design bug. I think that the problem connected with static electricity build-up inside macbook, that leads to "no battery problem". So far the workaround might be disassembling macbook and insulating each part of it, that is capable of accumulating static electricity. By the way battery itself is covered with sort of steel... I have the same problem myself on my 13'' macbook(A1181) and as I read through blogs all around the World, many people get that problem after using their macs for some time 1-3 years. Everyone is potentially effected by that issue. General knowledge on removing static electricity can give us solution to macbook problem - link. Yesterday I touched screws on "L" shaped detail(that closes RAM, HDD and shapes battery) with magnetic screwdriver and it resolved problem for quite a long time until the problem reappeared, so I repeated the procedure and it magically returned "charging" back. Then I decided to remove that "L" detail at all and when I did that the problem was gone for very long time and I started to think that I found solution, but later problem reappeared . Now I suspect the battery itself, screws hubs that used to hold "L" detail and base under battery for collecting static electricity. I am going to insulate all these parts to see the result. I mostly sure that the problem is static electricity, as charging started to work after macbook stays unpowered for long time(4+ hours) and the trick with screwdriver even hardened my belief, wish me luck) Similar problems - link1
