How many cycles does this computer's replacement battery have?

I installed a replacement battery from iFixit for my MacBook Pro back in April 2017. As of today the battery has sustained 457 cycles. Apple says their batteries will last for 1000 cycles until they need to be replaced. I would like to know how many cycles the aftermarket replacement battery should be able to go through. I ask this because this battery has expanded to a point where it prevents most of the laptop's trackpad from clicking. This did not happen with the original Apple battery, and I wonder if it may be due to poor design of the aftermarket battery.

All of our batteries have a one year warranty. @microfix6 can get in touch with us and we will happily replace it.

Regarding the quality of the battery, I've seen a number of factory-original batteries expand into the trackpad. There's even been reports of batteries expanding in brand new iPhone 8 models.

Aftermarket batteries can be lower quality than OEM parts, but they are not inherently worse. You just got unlucky. Either way, give us a call or shoot us an email. We'll take care of you :)

Hi,

I am not sure what iFixit's source is, but cycles are usually between 600-1000.

You shouldn't worry about that though.

Since you only bought that in April, it is still under warranty, and iFixit will happily exchange it for you.

Swollen batteries are defective. However they're are a consumable and with 457 cycles it's about at a half life. This is kind of a judgement call and we may need to hear from iFixit on the warranty status @evan

Do you tend to let the system run on battery a lot? Letting it to drain before recharging? If no then I suspect your logic board has a problem as 450+ cycles in 9 months is on the high side.

In any case get a fresh battery so your keyboard & trackpad aren't damaged.
