starts recording video when I zoom in
I've had this for a while, and cared for it well, so it has not been damaged. Now *most of the time* when I push the zoom button to 'T' to zoom in, the camera starts recording video. I thought maybe there's a physical problem on the PCB, since the buttons would be rather close. I opened it up and everything was in place and felt right, no sticky buttons or whatnot. Putting it back together did nothing to improve or worsen the problem. I'm no pro photographer, but this is a nice little camera, I'd hate to see it go.

When I read that the problem of the zoom starting the video recording may be caused by dust and moving the zoom button right and left did not work in solving the problem I tried the following:
I placed my mouth over the button that takes the pictures and the zoom lever and blew into the button. Right now, my Lumix DMC-ZS25 is working properly. This may have cleared what ever dust may have been making contact with the switches.

Brilliant ! Had the same problem with my DMC-TZ60 and tried your above solution. Immediately all good and working well. Thanks

I have a lumix zs40. It had all problems described. Zooming started videorecording. Zoom going in wrong direction, or totally freezing. I sprayed contact cleaner into the tiny crevice around the zoom ring and shutter button. Fixed everything. Here's what I used. DeoxIT Gold Mini-Spray, 5% Contact Conditioner. Bought on Amazon.
