MacBook Pro retina 13" mid 2014 turn off immediately, I/O board issue?

Hello everybody

6 months ago I spilled apple juice on my apple keyboard (ik ironic!) since then I bought an external keyboard because the internal one is very difficult to install and more expensive. Anyway after like 4 months my macbook is suddenly won't turn on, the turn on/off key is broke I couldn't turn my MBP on unless I unplugged the battery then plug my mac to the Megasafe adapter and it's worked for me.

About month ago my MacBook refused to turn on so I did a lot of research finally I tried "take a part method" by remove one part then try to turn it on, when I removed the I/O board data flex cable from the logic board my mac back to life and when I connect it again to the logic board the system turn off immediately, so I figured I only should replace this cable and I'll be good but when I did bought new one the problem still not solved.

Now I've suspicion about the whole right I/O board but I'm not sure and I can't afford to waste more money unless I'm sure.

If anyone have any ideas please don't hesitate to share it. Thank you all.

Additional info:

  • When I removed the I/O board cable the WiFi and Bluetooth icons show an X as they don't work or missing and I think this related to this cable but I'm not sure.
  • Turn on/off key is dead
  • MBP turn off immediately after plugging I/O board data flex cable.
  • WiFi and Bluetooth are dead.

Sadly Apple Juice when dried leaves a corrosive mix of sugar and acids. Your lack of cleaning the spill has likely allowed time to eat away at the connections and may have created a short. Its time to take the big dive!

You'll need to fully open the system fully removing the logic board cleaning as much off the spill as you can and you likely need to replace a few parts.

Yes, I would start off with replacing the I/O board unlike the older series the I/O board hosts the Airport board and has some logic on it. In addition it transfers the power from the MagSafe connector to the main logic board independent of the ribbon cable.

To fix the keyboard and power switch:

While you can replace the keyboard sub-assembly alone. I think in this case the full uppercase will be better. Here's the IFIXIT guide: Sostituzione case superiore MacBook Pro 13" Display Retina Mid 2014 and you'll need this part MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Upper Case Assembly. Spills tend to damage the trackpad and battery as well. IFIXIT also offers the part without them which is cheaper! But make sure your parts are still good (the battery does take some effort to remove without damaging it).

About the cleaning part I did wipe it up and I removed the logic board to do more efficient cleaning but I didn't do it immediately because I have no experience.

Unfortunately I really can't afford to buy the full uppercase I'm gonna stick with I/O board rn, I appreciate your suggestion tho.

@samdope - You'll need some cotton swabs & distilled water to wash the areas you see juice. Once you've gotten the parts cleaned you'll want to go over them with 85% or better isopropyl alcohol to get the water dried out. I tend to use a small bowl to hold the part and use a brush to bathe the parts so I know all of the junk is off. Then do a second bath with isopropyl alcohol. Give the parts a good day or two to dry on a warm window sill or use a warmed toaster oven (not on).
