How much RAM can I install?

I have 2GB of RAM in my laptop. Before I open it up I would like to know what the maximum RAM is that I can install in my MacBook Pro?

There's no way to tell you until we know EXACTLY which machine you have. Please give the last three letters of your serial number.

Wow! Thank you everyone for your responses and interests. I feel a little silly that I am unsure of my unit. I purchased it in November of 2009 so I assumed it was likely the 2010 release(as they do with cars) so maybe it was the 2009? Sorry to sound like a doehead. When I click on my "about this mac" it is clearly 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3. It is the model A1278

....and my serial number ends in 266D

This says your post is listed under the Mid 2010 model Pro. The Apple site says this model should have come with 4GB installed (2 x 2GB) and is upgradeable to 8GB. However, since you only have 2 in yours, I assume this is not the correct model year.

That's a fine answer IF --- why does he only have 2 GBs ---- what's your hurry to answer here?

It does say 2GB as standard for the Mid 2010 Pro in the link, which is the ifixit.com page for this model. I double checked Apple's site, and it doesn't offer a 2GB option for this model anywhere. I edited the ifixit description and removed the 2GB reference.

daniel - well done

Apparently I'm wrong, because it was rejected.

I guess iFixit just doesn't want to admit the fact that THEY ARE WRONG, Even everymac has it correct: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ma...

None of the 2010 MBPs come with less than 4 GB of RAM
