Black Screen after screen replacement

Went through some of the questions previously asked for the same problem/device. I've replaced several parts over the years on my iPhones without trouble, but recently when I tried to do a screen replacement, when I turn the phone on, I can see that the LCD lights up, but I only get a black screen. I can also tell that the TouchID is working, as my phone buzzes to let me know that I need to input my passcode upon rebooting the phone.

Since this is commonly asked, yes, I powered my phone down and disconnected my battery each time I went into my phone. I also brought the touchID, camera/speaker, and metal plate from my original screen over. I then went back to my original screen to see if maybe I had gotten a bad part, but my original screen is also only showing black. I'll need to wait until I can get home to put the circuitry under a microscope, but in the meantime, any suggestions or ideas as to what may be causing the problem? Just to reiterate, the screen does turn on, it just displays black. Thanks.

So I just went in again with a microscope, and inspected every connection and ribbon possible related to the screen replacement procedure. I can't find anything damaged or out of place. Any suggestions on what I can do next to troubleshoot the issue?

Wound up purchasing a new screen with the ear piece and camera pre-installed and now it works again. Likely damaged something when transferring the ear piece and camera lens from broken screen to the newer one.

Hi there, Brian..

Three things to do.

1. have you tried another screen, could be a bad screen?

2. turn your device off, then get a flashlight and look if you can see the apple logo when turning it on, if you can barley see it the back light is gone, meaning you'll need to solider.

3.

The new screen do you have a black tape over by the red ring marked, if not and you see three "gold" stripes you might have shorted the phone.

Number 1 was my first thought as well.

First of all, thanks for your response.

1. I tried the replacement screen, and then tried my original screen (which was severely cracked but working well.) Both only display black. Considering purchasing a new screen, but worry that because my old screen no longer works, the damage might not be with the screen.

2. I'm almost certain that the backlight is working. I can see it illuminate when I power the device on, it's just that the screen is empty. Shining light into it at power up doesn't reveal the Apple logo as would be expected.

3. Just took the phone apart again to check, and yes, there is in fact black tape over the area marked by the red ring.

Then I'm sorry, out of ideas.. Good luck.

I’ve the same issue here. I put back the old screen and that works well. Swapped back the new one, and I see it’s flashing but no Apple logo or anything shows up. My best guess, the new display is just bad… Can I send it back and hope to get a good one as a replacement?
