Hey, guys
I wanna replace my HDD and install SSD for iMac 27 5k 2015 Late, but I don’t understand, do I need install a thermal sensor or not?
Update 10/25/17
But I still do not understand why? If on so 27” 5k 2015 the hard drive does not have a cable for a temperature sensor
Questa è una buona domanda?

To your update: Apple over the generations have used different methods of applying the sensor. The first gens had a stuck on sensor, the second which you have here in your image is leveraging the internal sensor the drive makers added. The newest generation uses a spare pin on the power cable connection to gain access to this built-in sensor and needs custom firmware.
Lets look at it this way: A Ford Thunderbird engine won't fit the newest Ford car would it? Yet they do the same thing! Over time things get improved as in this case.
But we still have a problem as the SATA SSD does not offer an internal sensor for the system to access directly. Which is why we need the OWC sensor cable to offer SMC services a means to see the needed sensor. Not to deal with high temps a HD would have but just to get the needed thermal input otherwise the system goes into Safe Mode! Fan going into high RPM. In addition the newer models the CPU also goes into Safe Mode as well lowering its clock cycle so the CPU doesn't overheat.
