Soldering questions? On IC chips and Charge Ports

I can't seem to find a satisfactory reply to my questions, all the results I've seen are very ambiguous. Please help me understand if you have correct knowledge.

Recently I've been studying soldering.

I'm 20 years old and opened a phone and computer repair shop a year ago in Houston tx. Although it is doing well, I need to learn more things to make it more competitive. I know very basic things like screen repair, unlocks and imei repair, computer software/OS restores, changing ram and hard drives, Refurbishing lcds with machines, etc. however, I would like to take it a step further ( and I also just love learning anything to do with tech stuff haha) and start soldering ( as this is a universal trade also and can be used to fix electronics from aircrafts to medical supplies to casino slot machines). For now however I am finding it hard to really understand the types of flux to use.

Do I use liquid flux like Kester 751 or paste or what?

Are there different types of fluxes to use or is it all the same ( example, would you use same flux for iPhone 6 Plus touch ic as you would with a Samsung charger port repair)

What kind of flux should I use for iPhone ic chip repair and Samsung charger port repairs ( please leave a eBay link)

What type of solder should I use ( 63/37 or lead free or leaded? Is leaded even allowed in US?)

Is it possible to unlock iCloud by changing ic chips or is it to hard? (I've seen people changing memory size on iphones but can't find anything for iCloud)

The Flux is really a personal preference, I started out using Amtech NC-559-V2-TF but watch a lot of Youtube videos where someone who is widely known and one of my Tech Heros use Chipquik SMD291.

The Amtech is a bit thicker and cloudy, works great but I like the Clear Chipquik due to it being a bit more liquid like with finer needle like applicator on syringe.

You can get on Ebay or Amazon by just putting in the names listed above.

As for unlocking ICloud with Chip change, you are basically taking off the Chips tied to the motherboard...CPU, RAM, Baseband, Eprom and NAND from the Icloud locked board and replacing them with the unlocked IC chips... Quite difficult! and not very useful as you need to remove IC chips from a board that is already unlocked (Why not just repair it if it needs it and use the Icloud board for a donor "Parts" board)?

I had the same questions when I started out about a year ago and thought I'd try for "Giggles. I had no issues with any of it till I got to CPU...On a 1 to 10...it's a 15! Very hard to get it off without warping and cleaning the pads are a pain in the rear...reballing...pretty much everything is difficult. I have removed the CPU with the RAM still attached, reballed a short and ended up with another short on something else when done, so I just stay away from CPU repairs until my skills and equipment get much better.

Watch Videos from @jessabethany (Ipad Rehab) , Chris Long, Microsoldering, Mark Shaffer, STS Telecom and whoever else you find that does this type of work. Find some donor boards and practice till you are blue in the face. I've learned that sharpening your skills are crucial, but having the knowledge is priceless!

Flux and Solder battles on the internet are all overdone IMO. It's like OS or Browser battles in the past.

There are lot's of high quality fluxes and solder from well known manufacturers. The problem is when people buy cheap stuff from China to save a few bucks. Then you can get saddled with horrible flux or poor quality solder. Stick to the name brands, purchased via reputable suppliers to avoid counterfeits.

Then you can get saddled with horrible flux or poor quality solder. Stick to the name brands, purchased via reputable suppliers to avoid counterfeits. — Minho
