Dropped screen is only visible with flashlight - hinges damaged

My MacBook dropped down the stairs. I have a couple of concerns:

When closed the top is skewed to the left "open section of the Apple Logo on the top". It appears that the right hinge is broken - plastic is missing from that side on the lower body. In addition, when opening the screen does not stop it continues to an almost 180 degree angle.

When I turn on the computer, I only can see the screen using a flashlight. I am able to access the hard drive and the internet.

The cover for the hinges is askew on the left side - opposite the suspected broken hinge.

It does not appear that the battery is functioning as it will not work when removed from the power supply.

Thank you for your assistance,

Your screen problem is from the inverter. You've probably damaged the cable to it. You can find that cable here: MacBook Core 2 Duo LCD & Inverter A1181 (fast method) Replacement

I'd get it up and running and then address the battery problem.

This may be your hinge but to be certain please give us the last thrre letters of your serial number, http://www.powerbookmedic.com/13-MacBook...

Hi Bill,

I believe your inverter board is broken, because you are able to see the text on the screen when you shine a flashlight on it. Just buy another inverter board and replace it. Here is the link: Inverter

Hope this helps!

Hello, all the advice you've already received is well founded and should be followed. But first, I would like to suggest that you remove the top cover and examine the screen cable and all other connections to the logic board coming from the screen enclosure (connections on both sides of the logic board). Now that the screen opens up to just about a 180 angle, it is possible that you may have stress some parts of a connecting cable (in some cases even causing a breakage of those very small wires right at the connector) which may cause the same symptoms. It's always easier to start with simple things first, then move on to the next ADVISABLE steps you were already given.
