Water spilled on my laptop and now will not turn on

I have a MacBook Air 13 inch and some water got spilled on the keyboard. I tried my best to dry it off completely as soon as it happened. The laptop seemed to work fine after that. However, the following morning the laptop would not turn on at all. I took it to get fixed and they said it would cost more than the laptop itself to repair it. Does anyone know what could potentially be wrong with it or what I could do?? When I plug the charger in the light on the charger turns on but there is no response from the laptop what so ever. Thank you.

You may well have shorted out the keyboard but that is replaceable. First tell us EXACTLY which MacBook Air you have so we are all on the same guides. How long ago did it get wet? Have you opened it to see if the liquid got to the logic board?

I agree that this is likely the issue. I would not continue to try and power on the device, I would do all in your power to totally disassemble the machine and let it dry. Then, a fully keyboard replacement is probably in store.

Hi!

Maybe the laptop did not dry off completely and the few tiny remaining drops shorted some contacts in the main board.

The guy you talked to would most likely have replaced the board, which is why the repair would have been so expensive. You could totally replace it yourself, but MacBooks are hard to work with.

"MacBooks are hard to work with"? What kind of defeatist answer is this? With this attitude we can all just throw up our hands and go home.

Sorry mate, that's not exactly the purpose of that answer. Even with the really good guides iFixit has, a person that has never opened up any basic device or one that has no self-repair experiene whatsoever has little chance of success. That's just my opinion.
