How to Take Apart an iPod Cable?
I want to shorten the length of an iPod sync cable (30-pin to USB).
Anyone done this and care to share how they did it?

I have never shortened this cable, but have shortened a few standard USB's before. In those cases each wire was color coded, so it was easy to chop off a 2 foot section, then solder the wires back together. I would suggest investing in some heat shrink tubing for this project. If you try to use electrical tape on that many joints it will become unwieldy and probably not last long. Also, there may be uninsulated strands beneath the outer insulation and surrounding the other wires. This is the ground, and would need to be reattached just like the other cables.

Got it. I figured that way would work, but I was hoping to work from an end instead of the middle for a nicer finished look...
I was hoping to get the plastic cover off the USB tip and do all the solder work on that end instead of in the middle of the cable. I cant find a way to get that plastic piece off without damaging it.
