My screen randomly turned black, but came back to normal?

I was animating on Flipnote when my screen randomly blacked out, I flipped out because I thought it died, but the light was still on and on blue. Moments later it went back to normal. I've had this dsi for over 6 years, is there something wrong with the battery? Or is it just old and the functions aren't working as well?
