Need to Buy Parts...What Model Do I Have?

Hey all,

I am going to have to get a Logic Board (probably) and a replacement Keyboard. The problem is that I don't know exactly what MacBook Air I have.

Here's what I DO know:

It's a 13 inch, non-retina display. I am pretty sure it's a 128GB capacity. Don't know the processor.

On the back, in fine print it says: MODEL A1466 and EMC 2632

I have looked and looked on the outside and the inside for a Serial Number and the Serial number I found does not correlate to the Serial Numbers that I have seen for the MB Air. That number that's listed as the Serial Number is: C02LNBAFF5V7

On the INSIDE, at the bottom of the battery array there is MODEL A1496. I don't know if that's the model for the battery or what.

Why couldn't Apple just print the SERIAL NUMBER on the case somewhere?

That's ALL the unique identifying numbers that I have found on this MD Air 13".

Can you all please tell me what actual model or information I need to be able to buy the right Logic Board and Keyboard replacement? I sure don't want to spend the money getting the wrong one, install it, try to get it to work, it won't and then I can't return it and be out the $200+ that I paid.

Please tell us what happened to your machine that you think it needs a new keyboard and logic board.

You may find that the cost of replacing both of these may exceed the worth of the machine.

Thank you so much for helping me. I really appreciate it.

As for my problem, I have a a totally DEAD machine. It belonged to my Niece and I suspect that there was some water damage. I replaced the I/O Board and that didn't work. So my next natural step is to the Logic Board.

I was then informed that the problem I am having could be from a water damaged keyboard. This machine is absolutely as DEAD as a ROCK right now. I don't even get any indicator lights on the charging plug when I connect it.

I am NOT a MAC guy, I've always built and repaired PC's for many years. I would love this problem to be a water damaged keyboard. I'd much rather spend $25 for a keyboard than spend $200 for a logic board. It just seems that a water damaged keyboard wouldn't kill the entire system and that I would at least get a red, yellow or green light on the charging plug when I connected it. Who knows though? Like I said I'm not a MAC guy.

I hope I can get this thing fixed because my Mom could certainly use this machine.

If you all have any suggestions for me, please feel free to add them. I can sure use some luck.

Even with a shorted out keyboard you should get a light on the mag-safe adapter. Before I spent a dime on it I would make sure you at least get that. Here is a very good guide for treating liquid damage. Do the logic board first and see if you get any results. Electronics Water Damage

Yeah, that's what I thought too. I just can't see how a water damaged keyboard would destroy the machine even to where the lights on the plug wouldn't come on. Glad I have someone else that thinks so too.

YES, the adapter is OK. was the first thing I checked. I took it to one of these MAC repair places and they plugged it into one of their display machines right in front of me and it worked just fine.

I did have hopes that you were going to come back and tell me that it could be the keyboard causing it all. Logic Boards run from $175 to $250 and even up to $400!

I don't know that it's too smart of me to fix this machine. Parts just too expensive and as soon as I get it running, it needs a new, or a good used, battery, which is another $75-150.

I mean if I could pick up a guaranteed working logic board for $75-100, I'd get it. But even logic boards for MB Air's from 2012 are $100!

So...it's just not looking good for the Home Team on this one.
