What battery technology does the NuVision tm800w560l tablet use?

I called NuVision tech support to ask what kind of charging hub could be used with the device because the battery has been draining dead within 6 to 7 hours of use attached to a Plugable UD-3000 dock. The agent told me that under no circumstances should the tablet be used at all while it is charging. This sounds like something you might have been told about old 1990s lithium metal batteries. Does anyone know what kind of battery is in these tablets? I don't want to take mine apart to look because it's still under warranty. Also, has anyone had any luck using this tablet with a charging hub? If so, which one?

@gregpg I am somewhat confused by what you are asking. Yes your tablet uses Lithium Ion batteries and this "under no circumstances should the tablet be used at all while it is charging" is news to me. I do not see any reason for that statement.

If the battery were maybe too light for the tablet, the engineer who wrote the the CSR script might be worried about overheating encouraging thermal runaway, and that would depend partly on the specific chemistry of the battery used.

Sure there is always that possibility but it is somewhat unlikely. I think part of that is related to the recent hype about exploding batteries. Nobody wants to find their device listed on some news report. The only issue with using a device while charging it, is a prolonged charging time since the device will still receive some of the power.

my tablet also discharges when plugged and in use, but charges when not in use.

Total BS answer. Which is the Nuvision customer service model. It's because they provide the cheapest possible components, leaving you with an underpowered charger and sometimes dangerously overheated battery. By telling you not to use it while charging they hope you won't notice it can't do both at the same time. At least not without drastically reducing power consumption. Use it the way you want. Just keep an eye on the temp of the back cover. Never leave it lying on its back while on and charging. I honestly think the metal backplate is because they need it to dissipate heat.

This particular Tablet PC can't be used with a charging hub. The micro USB port can be used to charge the device or as a data port, but not both. It has been designed to prevent charging and data transfer, because of security concerns. (As mentioned above, it can explode under extraordinary circumstances).

I know it well because I own one of these. I died trying to make it charge while using the data port with a two-function USB hub. I could never make it work.

To avoid discharging while plugged and in use, connect your USB charger plug (capable of transferring minimum 2,000 mA) with a USC charger cable with the same specifications.

I have found that the battery drains faster (or charges slower) when using the wireless/ bluetooth functions or when the screen is set to higher brightness.

The Aida64 app (from Microsoft Store) can tell you how much current is your Tablet PC consuming (and if it's charging or discharging).

I hope this works. It's an awesome tablet. I love it.
