Front facing camera doesn't work ONLY when shield plate is screwed in.

So in essence, the front facing camera works, perfectly. Unless the shield plate is screwed on.

Block Image

This is not my photo, it is taken from google images to point out the shield plate in question

This is the shield plate I am referring too, with the camera flex underneath.

I can't find any information on this, my best guess is the flex ribbon is being pinched by the shield and stopping it from working, so perhaps I am putting the shield plate on wrong? ( albeit not very easy to put it back on at all )

I've tried using the phone without the shield plate, but of course the interference the plate blocks was missing up the digitizer just a bit too much.

Any help would be great, thanks :)

From what I can see in your picture it seems your front camera cable gets under the shield improperly. Maybe it's just a wrong impression I'm getting from the picture lighting, but check that everything is positioned correctly, maybe consulting Sostituzione schermo iPhone 5 as a guide.

The shield is there to protect and keep firmly in place the flat cables connectors, not to avoid interferences, thus it's quite likely the digitizer connector isn't sitting properly in place. It should lock with a light click on its connector, without forcing it in, and should work properly even without the shield.

I completely forgot to mention that the photo isn't mine. Really sorry for that.

You said the shield didn't mess with interference so I checked again and I'm pretty sure I just didn't push the digitizer cable in properly on that occasion.

I'm now wondering if it's safe to use the phone without the shield in the photo, it's working perfectly now, and it seems to be the only way to get the camera to work.

No problem about the picture. It's safe to use the phone without that shield, unless you drop the phone really bad, once the connector are properly locked they'll stay at their place. You probably have one or more pins bent on the front camera/board connector and once you apply pressure they short to the near one. Since it seems the only solution go for it, the alternative would be a close inspection of both connectors to understand where the loose pin is located..if it's on the flat cable you can replace the part but if it's the one on the logic board it would not be worth the cost of the repair.

I hadn't thought of that, I'll take a look again at the pins when I get the chance and hopefully update this post.

Thanks for the help man, I really appreciate it.

Never been on this forum before and I can say it's been a pretty good first experience :)

I've decided to use the phone without the shield on the LCD connectors for now. Thanks to Arbaman for helping me out with this. Will update if a more permanent solution is found :)
