Water damaged my HTC, it stopped working after ~6 hours.

I had accidentally gotten my HTC 10 submerged in water. After I took it out, I immediately held it in a towel to dry it off while blowing on the charging port, speakers, headphone jack etc. to try to get the water out. I did not immediately try turning on my phone. I waited around 15-20 minutes (leaving it in a towel), and then attempted to power it on. It worked, but the phone wasn't working properly. After a while, the battery was low, so I proceeded to charge it. After that, it began rebooting and rebooting repeatedly until the phone completely ran out of battery. I have left it on the charger all night and now the phone won't even turn on.

Can this be solved by replacing the battery? Or has my phone already kicked the bucket? If so, does the warranty cover this? (Please don't lecture me about what I should've done, just tell me what I can do about it from here)

OK, no lecture. Open it up, disconnect the battery and dry it out. Then reassess and let us know your finding. Here's how to get into it:

I would like to be able to disassemble my phone, but unfortunately I have almost nothing used in that tutorial (i.e. heat gun and suction cup)

@kwayne15, a hairdryer should do almost as good, but you will need a suction cup.

@kwayne15 Adapt and improvise. I stick and a piece of duct tape will do the job ;-)

@kwayne15 I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like you helped your phone to kick the bucket. Wrapping a twoel around it and blowing on the charging port, speakers, headphone jack etc. will not remove the water. Turning it on and trying to charge most likely created a short circuit. Okay, so much for that. Time to move forward.

The very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart the phone. This may further damage your phone. you also do not want to try to charge it any further. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using these guides. Once it is disassembled, you do need to clean it properly. You will need high grade isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Use this guide to see how to clean it. Even so it was written for a 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Do not forget to remove the EMI shields for proper cleaning. While you are cleaning it, check for any broken, missing or burned looking components. When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate.
