Retrofit CPU from Dual 1.25GHz MDD to Dual 867 MHz MDD?

Will the Dual 1.25G MDD CPU plug in and operate properly in the motherboard of an earlier Dual 867 MHz MDD?

Most likely not, the 1.25Ghz CPU uses a 167Mhz FSB, while the 867Mhz CPU uses a 133Mhz FSB, therefore it shouldn't work (At least not correctly, if you were to try it, it would be limited to to a lower clock speed, such as 1Ghz or 867Mhz)

*EDIT* There's a chance that your motherboard will support it though, Go to "More Info" from the "About This Mac" window, and check the "Front Side Bus" speed, if it shows up as 167Mhz, then you are good to go, but if it shows up as 133Mhz, then you can give it a try, but don't expect it to work correctly/at full speed.

You're absolutely correct. The orig FSB speed was 133, and I need to get 167 for it to function at full speed. After the switch, the machine now has CPU speed of 1GHz. I researched a little about reclocking bus speed to 167 MHz, but instructions were in French and I don't have that much confidence in micro soldering techniques. I have 1.75G of PC2600U-25330 RAM. Will that have an effect? Thanks.

You would have to modify the motherboard, NOT the processor to change the FSB, which is beyond anything I would recommend, but if you want to try it out, you could. Could you post a link to the page? I might be able to translate it.
