Unresponsive keyboard and trackpad

Hi,

I have cleaned my Macbook Pro 2011 from the inside with a vacuum cleaner. Because it was very dusty. Then I installed a new empty SSD drive. When I started the computer, I noticed that the trackpad and keyboard are not working.

When I was cleaning the Macbook, the fan accidentally went for a spin. Is it possible that this broke the keyboard and trackpad?

  • The caps-lock light is not working.
  • I tried the pram reset.
  • I tried a SMC reset.
  • Bluetooth and USB are working.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks

This is the common problem regarding MacBook . This is not a hardware issue . Actually PRAM & SMC resets don't resolve the issue. I guess no one has a real solution to this issue, I literally spent 3 hours with a Genius & no fix yet.

Sadly, I think you damaged your system with your vacuum ;-{

Vacuums tend to be a great van de Graaff generator which is why we don't use them as the static discharge damages the static sensitive components within your system.

The risk here is how dry the air is, the drier the more static build up within the vacuum nozzle & hose creating Triboelectric effect with the air rushing though the hose. You are then touching or getting very close to the chips on the logic board or your hand carries the charge to the logic board.

I only use can'ed air to blow the dust away and if needed a soft paint brush to scrub the surfaces to loose the dust but up.

Unlike a vacuum the short small bursts of compressed gas from the can does not create a large static build up. Compressed air from a compressor can be used but running it for a long duration can create a static build up within the hose! They do make special compressor hoses which have a conductive surface which you then need to bond to a good ground point (very expensive!).
