Hi there,
I am repairing my old MacBook A1181 13" 1.83 GHz Core Duo from 2006.
The "issue" is that I have an old version of Debian installed on it. No trace of MacOS but GRUB GNU.
I am looking for a way to install 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on it. Tried yesterday with an USB stick with dmg image on it. No way.
Will try tonight with a double layer DVD.
In the meanwhile, any suggestion?

You'll need to delete the partition mapping on the drive. I've had problems with a few Linux versions which Disk Utility just wouldn't clear.
I had luck with Drive Genius but you do have a bit of a problem here as this newer version won't run under Snow Leopard ;-{ Give ProSoft a call to see if they can offer you a version that will work. Or, take the drive out and use a newer Mac externally or using Target Disk mode to connect it too.
Or even use a Windows PC to scrub the drive down using their disk tools FDISK & FORMAT on the command line.

Is Ext4 ok for macos? Or should I use FAT?
No other option suggested from windows and Linux
If you are using a Windows PC to scrub the drive just use FAT32 or exFAT. Once you put the drive back into the Mac you'll need to redo it back the GUID & Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

For last, do you know of there is any software that can format to MacOs Extended form Windows?
The thing is that I have formatted the disc to exFAT and I cannot install MacOs. I always get that "prohibited" symbol. I guess that this could be related.
@mrngview , if you are able to boot off the DL DVD for the Snow Leopard installer, at the top of the installer's Finder, there should be a "Utilies" menu containing "Disk Utility". You can use this to format to Mac OS Extended Journaled. Remember to change it to GPT (vs mbr) first.
@avanteguarde - Sounds like he doesn't even have the OS install disks.
