Communications / Charging Port Problem

I've got a problem with an Ipad 2 (model A1395, 64GB). A few months ago the charger is was connected to exploded. Since then I have only been able to charge the device by connecting it to a charger whilst powered up, then power down the device. It doesn't recognize the charger when it is powered and doesn't charge (I've left it powered up and connected to a charger and the charge drops over time). I've tried several chargers and cables and always get the same result. Also it no longer communicates with external devices like an Apogee Jam.

I have replace the charging port but I'm still getting the same problems. So I assume the problem is on the logic board. Does anyone know if there are any user serviceable parts on the logic board that could be replaced? I know there is a daughter board for the wifi, but don't know if any other components or daughter boards that can be replaced.

The only other alternative is to replace the logic board. This looks fairly straight forward from the videos I've seen. But I haven't seen any 64G logic boards for sale. Is there some where I could buy one? I understand it is not possible to get a 16G and upgrade the memory.

If I swap the logic board will there be any problems with registering the device with my Itunes account? I assume to Itunes it will look like a new Ipad and I can log in as normal.

Thanks for any assistance or advice anyone can offer.

The charging circuit was likely damaged when the charger exploded. Can you confirm if that charger was a genuine/original Apple charger? Cheapo chargers are known to damage the charging circuit. If this is the case, then the logic board must be repaired by a micro-solderer.

As far as replacing the logic board, it will be like getting a new/different iPad. If it isn't locked, then you will be able to restore your data from a previous iTunes backup.

Thanks for the answer. The charger was a Chinese cheapo. Maybe won't be so cheap in the long run.

Do you know how I can find out which components are damaged. I've been trying to find schematics and board layouts but block diagrams is all I can find.

If I can identify the damaged components I might be able to fix them, Ive' done some surface mount soldering before, been an electronics engineer for over 30 years.

Thanks.

This search should do the trick...it was the first item listed.

I would check the U8100 circuit...that's where the charging occurs.

Thanks for the info. I'll look in to it in more detail when I get some time.
