1 Why is my screen blank
My laptop powers up to the desktop then flickers and goes to backlight blank screen

There could be a couple things going on here, The first thing i would try to do is load the computer into safe mod and see if it does the same thing. If it does the same in safe mode then it could be that the video card in the unit has gone bad. If it loads up just fine you may have a driver issue, Try to load new drivers while in safe mode and see if this would fix your issue, by uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it.
If the gpu is bad you may need to replace the motherboard or possibly just get a new unit.

It does the same thing after the safe mode prompt screen. It works fine with hdmi to the tv. Is there something I can try?
Also, the screen saver says " can't run because it requires a newer video card or one compatible with direct3d
Never heard of a screen saver giving an error like that. Depends on the screen saver that you got. How old is your unit
The only other thing that comes to mind is checking the cable inside that connects the lcd to the mainboard. That is possible to replace. I would start with removing the cable and reconnecting it. If that does not work. Trying getting a new cable. If all else fails it may even be a lcd problem and needs to be replaced. I really hope this helps ya.

I appreciate the advice. I checked online and a possibility was white screen Trojan. I followed that and it worked for a minute. My screensaver works again but the screen still flickers. I don't know about checking cables, I can't take anything apart. I will have to take it somewhere.
