Recovery Error in both Refresh and Reset PC options

Hi, I need help with my Acer Aspire Switch 10, Windows 8.1.

My laptop isn't performing well. The Windows Store app and the Store Apps themselves won't open (with the exception of the Camera App.), as well as my Microsoft Office 2016 Applications. The Search Bar in the Start Menu also doesn't open.

So I've decided to perform both the refresh and reset option.

Even doing the full system restore. But none worked.

It always gives the recovery error in blue screen:

Recovery

Your PC needs to be repaired

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

Error Code 0xc0000185

You will need to use recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.

Help, please?

Thank you.

Hi,

The error is basically saying that the recovery data that your computer is utilizing to reinstall the OS with is corrupted or is missing files. I've seen this many times with customers that uninstalled certain programs that associate with or utilize .dll (system) files. When my customers removed these programs part of the uninstall process will ask them if they are sure if they want to remove the program and that doing so will also remove whatever .dll (system) file the program is using.

I am sure there is more than one solution for this, but what I have done is created a Installation USB using this Microsoft Support page:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...

If your machine isn't currently working you would need to use a different computer to do so.

Reinstall Windows 8.1 from the media disk you create and it will create a new recovery partition for you in the process. Should fix everything.

**Note**

Doing it this way means you will have to reinstall your manufactures drivers from their support site afterwards. It is a pain, but has always worked for me.

The Drivers: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/su...

(make sure to change the OS from Windows 10 to 8.1)

Good Luck.

This com is useless because he didnt said that the Acer Aspire Switch 10E dont recognise USB Key in the dock when you want to reinstall windows (with a key including w10-8 version setup on it)! So actually we cant do nothing to reinstall if the usb key is not recognised by the pc..

Hi @ Donkley K,

To get a Win 8.1, Win 10 PC to boot from a USB, go into the BIOS menu area, select USB as 1st boot option, also enable Legacy USB (or CSM -not sure re your PC) save changes and restart with Recovery USB inserted and follow the prompts
