Help Needed: Possible upgrade options for the logic board & processor

Hey all,

I'm currently running the following spec:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)

2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 (I reckon it's dual core)

16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB

Storage drive has been upgraded to a 1Tb SSD

It's beginning to really show its age when it comes to video editing, grinding out 10 minute videos in 1 hour 45 mins in Premiere Pro, and glitching out backgrounds over chromakey in Final Cut Pro X.

I'm wanting to know if it's possible to upgrade the logic board and processor to at least a quad core, and to improve the GPU. If so, where can I find the parts?

My other consideration at this time is to build a Hackintosh from the ground up and only use my old trusty MacBook Pro for quick edits and audio processing. The current range in the Apple Store seems like a complete waste of cash given the spec of the machines.

The first thing that hit me on this is the Hard Drive/IR Cable. This is a known issue. Replace it with the one from the 2012 machine. Better cable, wider data path. more suitable for SSD drives. This cable fails from impact with the bottom of the case. So I put padding on the optical drive using 3M Extreme mounting Red Tape to prevent the bottom from impacting it. After looking at your comment to Cameron, I think you are asking to much of your little machine. You are becoming a professional and in need of a mans machine! Go to the 2010-2012 MacPro and you can build a behemoth. Let me know if interested and I'll give you some links if you want them. Something like a 12-Core 3.46GHz Westmere Apple Mac Pro 128GB

Your machine should Benchmark3 at about 2553.

Search on eBay for the part number found on the original cable, you will get some results. Pretty much all the suppliers get these from the same source, rarely any issues with cables

As for upgrading the logic board, its pretty much maxed as you have it and it might just be better to get a new macbook. As for the hackintosh, i have one and i like it. This website here http://tonymacx86.com/ will have everything you would need to build one, and also its a fraction of the price of an actual mac.

I'm looking to spend what I would on a Mac Pro and just beast it. Planning on building a visual media centre around my already sizeable audio rig. The Mac Pro is just terrible for the money involved, especially given that it only has 1 HDMI output. Looking to run 3 large high resolution monitors.
