I forgot to mention ESD safety. Google it and select your favorite source to read from.

To prevent it, simply keep hand/arm contact on the metal part of the case to keep it grounded. Try avoiding static electricity including carpets.

Just came back from my work and started working on it. I have 2 questions for now:-

Q1. Manual Pg # 51 - it tells to connect 2 chassis fan cables to 2 fan header in Mobo, I don't see these cables anywhere, is it one of the cables coming from PSU? There's only 1 cable coming from my fan which is already connected to a different slot (it was preassembled).

Q2. Pg # 52 - it tells to connect 2 X 12 cable and 2 X 2 cable between PSU and Mobo, which I have done. But, there are so many other cables coming out of PSU, where do they connect. I am bit confused looking at those cables.

**I don't have a GPU yet, is it mandatory for my computer to operate?

Q1: Just unplug from where ever it's plugged into and plug it into the mobo. The motherboard needs at least one fan plugged into it to boot (besides the cpu fan).

Q2: A psu has a whole lot of extra power connectors built in for expandability. I don't know what PSU you have, but I'll assume It's low end (like mine). You should have four SATA power connecters, four molex connectors, a motherboard connector, a CPU connecter, and a GPU connector. You will use a CPU, mobo, and sata connector. You have extra molex connectors for legacy devices and fans (an adapter is necessary for fans). The three extra SATA connectors are for adding drives, like a DVD drive, secondary HDD, and maybe a backup HDD. There is also a GPU connector for adding a GPU. I recommend tying them up with a twist tie and neatly stowing your extra cables.

And no, you will not need a discreet GPU for this system, because the motherboard has a low power one built in. As long as you don't do anything GPU heavy such as 3D modeling, games (not including solitaire), or video encoding, you should be fine.

BTW, when you get serious and build a full fledged modern PC, I would honestly appreciate it if you asked for my advice on getting components. I've got my head wrapped around spec sheets, and I'd like to do something with that knowledge.

Steps

  1. Since you already put the processor and heat sink on the motherboard, instruction is not necessary. But before you install the mobo, use the below manual to install the RAM. Pages 38-41.
  2. Install the motherboard. You will need a manual. The manual tells how to install it and plug the on/off and status LEDs on the case into the mobo (mobo is short for motherboard). Manual: Pages 30-32 http://downloadmirror.intel.com/16958/en...
  3. Install the power supply unit, or PSU for short. Use the manual included with the case or the PSU's manual. A good cheap PSU: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-WHITE-Power-...
  4. Install the HDD. Again, use the case manual.
  5. If you do get a GPU (referred to as GPU, graphics adapter, graphics processing unit, etc.) use page 44 of the mob manual to do so.
  6. Now start plugging stuff in. This stuff doesn't need to be in a special order. Using a SATA cable, attach the HDD to the mobo. Page 45. (for future reference, all page numbers are for the motherboard manual unless otherwise noted).
  7. Plug in the all the header pins with the help of the case manual and mobo manual pages 46-50. This can be annoying.
  8. Plug your main two fan into the motherboard. If you have any extras, plug them into the PSU using a molex to fan header adapter. Page 51.
  9. Plug the 2x10 pin motherboard connecter from the PSU into the mobo. It will be marked "motherboard" on it. Page 52.
  10. Plug the CPU power connector into the mobo. Also page 52.
  11. Plug the SATA power cable from the PSU into the HDD. SATA power has 5 multi colored wires that terminate with a thin inch wide connector.
  12. If your GPU has a power connector on it, plug it in. Use the GPU's manual.

Well, that about covers it. If I missed something, nothing could be critical to the system.

If you plan on putting Windows on it, simply use the Windows Media creation tool to create a bootable USB drive to install Windows from. Done plenty of times, very simple. Instructions here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...

I have noticed Windows Media creation tool isn't available anymore, so if I can I'll edit my answer to include the .exe for the software. (An .exe is a file type that windows recognizes as a program it can open.)

@pccheese - thanks for your answer on the PSU connectors. I have a question on the below chart so I am posting my question here. I have only been able to do the B, G and F connection from below chart and have no clue about others. Can you advise if the other connections are required as well?

You will be my GURU for my modern PC built, if I dare to do so, and you don't mind :)

Does your case have firewire or rs-232c port? If not, your good to go. Can't wait for that PC to get going. I take much pride when working on my PC, and I hope you do too. High five! Where some of the few people that save nearly half the cost of pre-built PC by doing it ourselves.

Ok, got everything except SATA cable which the local shop is selling super expensive and some peripheral cables. Will post once everything is setup. Thanks again for all your support.

B&H has SATA cables pretty cheap. Best buy should have a few in stock.

Wasn't finding the ones under my budget - so i'm ordering it from ebay. C$5 for SATA cable and $5 for VGA cable, will arrive in 2-10 days. I have to get a cheap monitor as well. May I ask how much would you have spent on such machine, I think I would end up spending around C$150 total.
