An engine will start but not run when the fuel runs out . If the fuel pressure is not strong enough the car will stall out .

the tank is full of fuel. how can i check the fuel filter? where is it
i should claify that the truck, as I said, will start but WON'T run. would that seem to make a difference to you as far as getting it to a parts house?
sailer342, You do not state the year of your truck, GM trucks with electric fuel pump for the most part, filter attaches and lines run along the inner frame rail of trucks. The attached link is a video which may help.
On my 07, Sierra Classic, 4.8, its' fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator is with the fuel pump, in the gas tank and not on the inner rail of the frame.
My 2004 gmc Yukon has no fuel filter on the frame or in the tank

sailer342 , Stalling issues bad sensors TPS, MAP, MAF, IAC, O2, failing knock senor, faulty injectors, dirty throttle body, EGR valve, vacuum leak, failing fuel pump, etc.etc..To avoid throwing guesses and parts at your truck, have the truck scanned for trouble codes as a first step. Some of the auto parts suppliers offer free code reading like Pepboys, Nappa, Advanced auto parts,etc and some of the guys are very knowledgeable and may have seen the issue often and put you on the right track. Good luck.

03 chevy silverado.. 4.8 same issue.. Replaced fuel pump been running fine. Today it just stalled out.. Got it running after about 5 mins drove home. Only code it was throwing is p0101 so went bought new mass sensor.. Changed it ran fine better then ever. Went to leave hour later stalls again.. Get it back home sits for a while, cranks up driving it and it stalls this time want start back. Check engine light not on. Help please!

I'm having the same issue, my 2000 Yukon 4x4 slt, 5.3 had been running just fine, except for the change oil light, started then stalled, stared it again ran to store, then went to start back up wouldn't stay running unless I kept my foot on the gas pedal, kept a foot on gas and brake pedal, got home sat a week starts, idles no problem drove it no problem ? Didn't stall at all confusing. I had replace the fuel pressure regulator that's on the fuel rail some months ago was acting the same way, a bad or failing ECU will cause the same problem. I had a front axle 4x4 actuator go out wouldn't start replace it ran fine ? My Yukon has 300 thousand miles on it, maybe the Mas air flow sensor or the air control sensor or fuel pump. It's running fine again.
Anyone else had this problem.

95 GMC 5.7 g2500 Vandura it'll start it makes accelerator and it don't want to rev up it will die

I have a 1980 Gmc with manual fuel pump it will start but won’t stay running unless I barely hold the gas down but as soon as I take my foot off it dies
