Keyboard Backlight not working.

On my Asus FX550VX I cannot turn on the keyboard backlight. The fn+F4 or the fn+F3 does not turn it on or off. fn+F3 opens the outlook mail and the fn+F4 opens my browser. How do I turn on the keyboard backlight?

HI @ Chris Eve,

Here's the info from the webpage linked below in the Chosen Answer:

Notes:

Drivers included in the list are for Notebooks or Laptops.

Most of the drivers are ZIP files. To install them, extract the content to a folder and look for the Setup.exe file.

If you get the message “Another version of this product is already installed…”, you need to uninstall the old version and then install the new one.

basically when you download the Smart gesture drivers to your laptop from the link and save them to a known folder location in your computer, use Windows Explorer to find the file.

The file is a compressed file which holds a lot of other files.

Click (or double click) on it. and you'll be asked if you want to extract all the files and it will give a location. If you're happy with the location for "all" the files" to be saved there click OK and all the files will be there.

Find the Setup.exe file (in the new saved location) and double click on it to install the Smart Gesture.

You may have to uninstall the old Smart Gesture (look in Programs and Features) if it won't allow you to install the new one.

ASUS needs to answer why the Fn9 key doesn't work! I have to go in and reload the program almost weekly. Why does the backlight keep turning off?!

da

Has anyone figured out another way to do this? My fn + F4, F5 and F9 key DO NOT work, even after uninstalling and re-installing the two updates in the required order? And of course after restarting my computer each time to make sure the changes go into effect.

Hi,

If you have Win 10 installed, try updating the ATK package and Smart Gesture drivers and see if this resolves the problem.

Be sure to update the ATK package first before the Smart Gesture drivers.

Here is a link to the latest Asus Win 10 drivers

Be aware of the Notes: near the top of the page in the link, regarding installation of the drivers. Also do not be tempted to update all the relevant drivers found on this link. It may confuse the issue if you run into problems. Work on one problem at a time. As the saying goes "If it ain't broke don't fix it"

If you’ve turned off your touch pad using fn-f9, then use fn-f9 to toggle it back on momentarily.  Then, while the touchpad is momentarily active, try fn-f4 to brighten and fn-f3 to dim the backlight to desired level.  Once at the desired level you may opt to disable the touchpad again using fn-f9.  Bright and dim will continue to function as expected going forward until the next time your computer sleeps or re-boots.  Should bright and dim stop responding, simply repeat the fn-f9 toggle trick and you should be all set.

Well, thanks for the tip, but now I know Fn+f9 doesn't work with me either, though the f9 key clearly shows the TouchPad toggle icon

this used to work but one day all "fn" button hot keys stopped working. turns out it was a driver thing.

Thank you.. You made my night. Thanks

So I just figured out my “A” button has a function. I held down my fn key and “a” and my backlight on my keyboard popped on!! It took me two years to figure it out.

Your model of laptop does not have backlighting.

That is why your F3 and F4 buttons do not have any icons on them.

It may be sad to hear, but chances are that the backlight is gone for good. I have a similar issue and the service guy told me that the issue is with he ribbon cable connected to the backlight. Have to get the backlight replaced :My backlight stays always ON, though it is so dim that even with lights off, I cant see any light, careful inspection reveals that the light is on.
